Files
A file explorer the width of a page. It knows nothing of where the files come from: it asks for a folder's content and takes file entities back — the same loader a tree takes — so a disk, an index, an archive or an api all read alike.
The explorer
Folders on the side, the folder's content as a list sorted by any column or as a grid; back, forward and up; a filter; selection with the mouse — ctrl, shift — and the keyboard — arrows, Enter, Backspace, ctrl+A, Escape; more asked for when a folder holds more than a page. Double-click walks into a folder and hands a file to the page. The view and the order are remembered.

One folder, as a list or a grid, each item a link: a folder to the same page opened on it — here through ?folder= — a file to wherever the page sends it.
