Tooltip

Tooltip

A few words about what the pointer or the focus is on, beside it. There is one tooltip for the page, placed by the layout: any element asks for it with data-tooltip — tooltip() writes it in twig, a vue binds it — and it comes under the pointer after a moment, under the keyboard's focus at once, and never under a finger. It turns away from the edges of the window rather than leave it.

On anything

A button, an icon on its own, a marker: the attribute is all it takes. An icon with no words is where a tooltip matters most.
Published

With a title, or light

A heading above the text for a tooltip that explains, and a light one on the page's own ground where the inverted one would be too loud.

Placement

Above by default. Asked for a side, it takes it when there is room and the other side when there is not; along that side, it slides to stay in the window, its arrow still on what it points at.
