Atlas of agricultural and food policies — the data behind the book

About me

The data work behind the "Atlas des politiques agricoles et alimentaires" by Philippe Ducroquet and Jean-Paul Charvet (Éditions du Rocher, 2024): FAO and World Bank figures ingested, cross-checked and turned into charts, country by country.

Atlas of agricultural and food policies — the data behind the book

The atlas explains why the agricultural and food policies of thirty countries, rich, emerging and poor, on five continents, succeeded or failed.

I built the tool that fed it: the FAO datasets (production, food supply, trade, trade indices, exchange rates) and the World Bank ones (population, current account balance) imported into a database, table by table, refreshed as new releases came out; then a chart generator giving, for each of some fifty countries, its population against cereal production and food supply, its five main agricultural imports and exports over half a century, the detail of its cereal trade, its exchange rate and its balance of payments. The authors read the trends from there to write the study.
